Houston Sedation Dentistry
At Pearl Dentistry, we want our patients to feel calm and at ease when they come to us for dental treatment. However, some people experience anxiety and stress when they consider undergoing dental care. Our sedation dentistry options allow our patients to relax and be comfortable while we perform their needed treatments at our office in Houston.
Oral care is vital to maintain your smile and your overall health. If you have avoided dental treatments due to anxiety or fear, sedation dentistry may be the right option for you. We have several different methods of sedation we use to help our patients feel at ease, from mild nitrous oxide to IV sedation. You can relax under sedation while we perform the needed care on your teeth and gums for optimal oral health.
Dental Sedation Options
Our team uses sedation dentistry for our patients that have anxiety or those undergoing invasive dental procedures. The level of sedation depends on the procedure and the patient. If you have dental anxiety, we will discuss the options available before your procedure. Some of the main options include:
- Nitrous oxide. “Laughing gas” or nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that can help you relax if you have mild or moderate anxiety. The effects dissipate immediately after your procedure, making it a good choice for those who will need to drive after their appointment.
- Oral sedation. Oral medications can be used for sedation. For this method, we can prescribe a medication to take before you come in for your procedure. The oral medication will ease anxiety, but it can also make you groggy; you may need someone to bring you to and from your appointment.
- IV sedation. For invasive procedures like wisdom teeth removal or for those with high levels of dental anxiety, IV sedation is available. Our team includes an experienced dental anesthesiologist to safely perform this form of sedation.
